Our history

One of the first photos of the church

The Salou Protestant Church  was founded in 1969 by the pastor Mario Figueras, who named the church ‘Bethany ‘ after the village where Jesus of Nazareth often rested and where he performed one of his most well known miracles, that of raising Lazarus from the dead.

It all started with two families who would hold meetings in a leather workshop. Nearly 30 years later, after various changes of address, the premises at Pere Galés Street were opened on the 27th October 1996.  The present church building, with its traditional medieval bell tower brought specially from the United Kingdom, is still on this site.

Laying of the first stone

About 200 people form this church, which is so much more than just a building. The church is a family and a community of followers of Christ.

Since 2001, the street (formerly known as Berenguer de Paulo Street ), at the request of the church, has been named after Pere Galés. Pere Galés was a reformed Protestant from Tarragona and a distinguished pedagogue, known for his vibrant faith and great interest in education.
